Samian Quazi (P103)
Hello! My name is Samian Quazi (he/him) and I'm a P103 (per diem) registered nurse working at the San Francisco Behavioral Health Center (SFBHC). I've worked as an RN for seven years now in Texas, Maryland, and facilities right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. A major reason why I settled in this community was to practice in a unionized environment, since it means we working nurses can truly ensure the safety, longevity, and vitality of our nursing careers.
Our current union contract has many exclusions against P103s, most critically against safe and sick leave, and does not explicitly permit us to freely pick up shifts across DPH departments. We also don't have overtime pay policies that are in line with competing healthcare systems, such as Kaiser and Sutter, nor do we have mechanisms to ensure equitable distribution of shift opportunities amongst P103s.
We don't get what we want unless we speak up, so I hope you will vote for me for the changes we need as P103s!

Dallas Tokash (SFGH Maternal/Child Health/NICU)
Hi Family,
My name is Dallas, I am a Night Shift Nurse in our NICU. I am honored to be nominated by my colleague. I am an SF local and my family has always been a strong supporter of workers rights. My Spanish grandpa worked in old Butchertown and my Polish grandpa worked at the old Ford plant. My dad raised me on his picket line when he had to strike and we learned why unions are vital to the worker.
It’s important that we get a good deal in the upcoming contract. Just like the babies I am so passionate about, I am also passionate about the General and the family I have made here. I bring my passion, my diversity and my communication style to the table, and a big cup a coffee.
We deserve more than a “fair contract” we deserve a great contract for better patient safety, new employee retainment, employee satisfaction, and for all of our futures.

Kristen Vandling (SFGH Maternal/Child Health/NICU)
Inspired by family members who were involved in the steel workers and UPS unions, I became a SEIU 1021 Steward in early 2020 and since then I have actively participated in supporting our members! I have worked at the ZSFG Family Birth Center (Labor & Delivery) since 2015 where I’m proud of the efforts we’ve made to improve our maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Providing safe patient care is the #1 priority of our hospital, and that starts with taking care of our nurses by providing safe staffing and safe work environments!
I enjoy the fast-paced nature of Labor & Delivery as well as the complex requirements of being a steward. From advocating for colleagues to long-term continued discussions with nursing and hospital management, I'm present for the fight to help ensure that everyone gets the rights outlined in our MOU and Civil Service rules and feels that they are coming to work at a place they love where they feel supported and have access to resources they need to care for our patient population.
When it comes to the upcoming contract negotiation, my focus will be on safe staffing levels, appropriate AND competitive compensation, and improving the readability of the MOU language.
